Energy is real and it is all around us. Our environment has natural sources of energy like the sun and the wind for example, and we as humans carry our very own unique energy field -the bio magnetic field. The quality of our field depends upon many factors including how we think, our emotions and feelings.
Looking back historically, many cultures have been using energy healing as a part of their traditional practices for a long time. Energy healing, simply put, is a holistic practice based upon the premise that the human body encompasses an energetic life force, energy centres (chakras) and channels (meridians). When balanced, this vital energy maintains and restores good health and harmony within the body at all levels – physical, mental and emotional.
The good part is that energy healing has its roots entrenched firmly in scientific fact. Energy medicine is more based on physics rather than biochemistry. It works on the fact that everything in this universe is composed of molecules that are vibrating at different frequencies, including our body and therefore working energetically to balance these biofields can result in overall good health.
Current beliefs in society reflect the thinking that anything worthwhile can only be got by constant extraordinary effort every single day. Ifsomething comes too easy, it is simply not worth it!!
Success is often seen as a factor of hardships undertaken, sacrifices made, hard toil and pushing ahead persistently. This means in essence, that we are training ourselves to constantly “fight” for what we want if we want a good life, which is in fact self-defeating.
In reality, the reverse is true. Constant strife, leads to stress and tension which in turn results in a poorer quality of life, relationships and health. When we are tense, we are unable to tune in into our feelings and situations and often make incorrect decisions or wrong choices that impact us negatively.
In nature, water and air circulate effortlessly, to create great energy and power. In life too, we can use the concept of less effort is more. By staying relaxed and calm, we can effortlessly access our physical and creative energies to accomplish so much more than we ever will through straining, tension and sheer will power.
By repeatedly, following “effortlessness” in how we live our lives, we become more intuitive, efficient and effective in achieving what we desire.
In order to work with our energy, we need to first understand the concept of “strong” and “weak”. Anyparameter that strengthens us energetically is “strong” and that which takes away our energy or weakens us energetically is “weak”.
Imagine that you are in a beautiful location, hills to one side and a babbling brook on the other side. The birds are singing in the skies and the sun is warming the environment gently and everything in nature is basking in it’s golden glow. Flowers of every colour imaginable are blooming and are a testament to hope and the springing forth of new life. Close your eyes for a minute and sense how you feel within yourself. The feeling you get now is the feeling of “strong” when something is energetically enhancing, and supportive.
Now let’s take a look at another scenario. Imagine that you are in a crowded street. There are multitudes of people all around and you need to use the public toilet. There is one in front of you. As you walk towards it, you see it is very dirty and smelly. The odour of urine is strong and the stench is quite unbearable. If you were to take a step inside, how would you feel within? Close your eyes and sense how you it feels in your body. This “cringing” feeling is the concept of “weak” which is energetically depleting or weakening.
Now armed with this wonderful knowledge, let us examine what tests “strong” and what tests as “weak”:
Stand naturally but with your toes pointed outwards. Close your eyes and sense how you feel. You will notice that the sensation you get will be that of “weak”. This is because energy flows in circuits or circularly within the body. Turning your toes outwards causes our energy to flow out of the body and therefore it tests “weak”.
Now turn your toes inwards. Close your eyes and check how you feel. You will notice that this position gives you a “strong” response. This is because turning your toes in is one of the ways to cause energy to circulate into the body, increasing mental and physical strength, giving you a “strong” response.
Body builders are a classic example of pure physical strength. However, a lot of effort is required to build strength and muscle mass. Regular training, using weights, resistance exercises and nutrition are some ways in which they achieve this strength.
By contrast, acquiring energetic strength, involves increasing the use of mindful awareness into our wellness routine. Energetic strength in turn increases the circulation of energy in the body and together with physical strength leads to better health and longevity. It is in fact the foundation on which physical strength can be easily built.
In energy study, any motion that allows energy to flow back into the body or one that creates an energy circuit within the body, strengthens it. On the other hand, motions that allow energy to dissipate and diminish within the body, weakens it.
Circular motions as explained earlier, create energy flows and circuits within the body. Therefore, circular movements such as rotating our hands or arms etc. preserve and increase energy and physical strength. In fact, mentally projecting circles and spheres to yourself will further strengthen you.
Linear motions such as pushing out or up above the head causes energy to go outwards, thus weakening you. Similarly, extension of legs or mental thoughts of squares will also weaken you.
Placing the tip of the tongue on the roof of your mouth reconnects the main energy circuit for the energy to circulate thereby increasing both your energy and your physical strength.
To test this, you can stand with your arm held out, tongue held normally in your mouth and ask someone to press your arm down. You will notice that you get a “weak” response evidenced by the fact that the person will be easily able to press your arm down
Now connect your tongue to the roof of your mouth and ask them to repeat the same action as above. You will notice that you get a “strong” response and that it will not be easy to push your arm down in this instance.
Focusing on the body of the midline, physically or mentally, strengthens you. How can we test that?
Place one of your hands vertically along your body’s midline. You will get a “strong” response as it increases your energy at the very core of your body.
Now try placing a hand outside of the midline to the right or left of the midline. You will notice that it creates a general body “weakness” in terms of energy flow.
Similarly, just thinking about your body’s midline will center and strengthen you both physically and mentally.
Standing erect creates stability and strengthens youallowing your energy to flow freely as opposed to leaning backwards or forwards or leaning to the left or right which weakens you.
In the end, there is no “one size fits all” approach when it comes to healing. But learning to recognise and interpret what our body communicates to us with awareness is a good starting point for any modality of healing. The tips and suggestions outlined above can only further help to effectively support balance your energy field and restore good health and wellness on all levels.
